Anxiety
Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety is a modern-day response to fear — a protective mechanism that has simply become overactive in today’s world. When our brain believes we’re in danger, it triggers the sympathetic nervous system — the body’s “fight, flight, or freeze” mode. Stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol are released to help us react quickly: our heart races, palms sweat, breathing changes, and our stomach churns. These reactions are designed to keep us safe — but they can also make us deeply uncomfortable.
The challenge is that our brains can’t always tell the difference between real danger and perceived danger. So the same system that once saved us from wild animals now activates when we face modern stressors — a difficult conversation, a social situation, a deadline, or even the pressure to be “good enough.” Over time, this can become a cycle: our brains stay on high alert, scanning for threats that aren’t really there.
For some people, especially those who are neurodivergent (ADHD, autism, sensory sensitivities, or trauma-related responses), this system is even more finely tuned. Their minds may process the world in faster, deeper, or more intense ways — making them more sensitive to noise, change, or emotional tone. This can lead to constant internal “buzzing,” social exhaustion, or feelings of never quite fitting in. Anxiety can then grow out of self-doubt, low self-worth, or the exhausting effort of trying to mask who they truly are.
When left unaddressed, anxiety begins to shape how we live — narrowing our world, making decisions harder, and eroding confidence. But the good news is that these patterns can be changed.
Solution Focused Therapy works by calming the body’s stress response and helping the mind create new, healthier patterns of thought. Using a tailored blend of talking therapy, NLP, CBT, hypnotherapy, and practical tools and techniques personalised to you, we focus on small, achievable steps that move you forward. Together, we’ll quieten the noise of anxiety, strengthen emotional balance, and build the confidence and clarity needed to handle life’s challenges. Most clients notice they sleep better, think more clearly, and start each day feeling more settled and in control.
Anxiety doesn’t have to rule your life — your brain simply needs a new map to follow. And together, we can build it.
“I’ve had anxiety all my life, but didn’t really accept it until recently. Clare helped me to realise what was causing it and showed me how to help myself. Clare recorded something to help me with sleeping which in turn has helped me to empty my stress bucket! I found the smallest thing would overwhelm me before but am now able to manage things. I’d definitely recommend this as a natural way to help overcome anxiety. Thanks Clare”
CD has grown so much in confidence since doing hypnotherapy with me. She is self employed and was struggling to grow her business. She now has a much more prominent social media presence, with more followers, and runs a stall at local craft fairs.
“I had 6 sessions with Clare to tackle my anxiety which was affecting my sleep, day to day life, and general well-being. From the initial consultation, Clare put me firmly at ease. She is warm, knowledgable and shows no judgement. I instantly felt as though I could safely open up. The sessions alongside a sleep recording, provided by Clare, have made such a difference. My anxiety is reduced to the point where I have been able to begin to reduce my prescribed medication and almost at the point of ending completely. My work stress which has always been such a negative impact is heavily reduced to a reasonable, manageable level. I’m so happy to have had this experience and would wholly recommend Clare and Hypnotherapy.“
LB has since given up smoking on her own and has stopped all medication. She has also recently driven long distances with her children in the car – something she would avoid at all costs previously!
Each session is approximately one hour long, and although varied, most clients’ anxiety patterns are usually resolved between 6-12 sessions.
Each session is £60*
Discounts are given for bookings of 6 or more in advance.
