Supporting Our Young People

Our young people have lived through extraordinary times. A huge part of their lives has been shaped by the pandemic — and only now are many of the emotional and social effects truly surfacing as we all adjust to this “new normal.”

But what is normal for today’s children and teens? When the world suddenly closed down, school became a screen, friendships moved online, and daily routines disappeared. For years that are meant to be full of exploration and connection, young people were asked instead to isolate, adapt, and make sense of a world that felt uncertain and disconnected.

Children and teens learn who they are through others — through play, laughter, shared experiences, and face-to-face moments that help them build confidence and a sense of belonging. That developmental stage was interrupted. The result? We’re now seeing a sharp rise in anxiety, low mood, social withdrawal, and confidence struggles among children and teens.

At the same time, life has become even more complex. Many young people now live in multi-platform worlds — switching constantly between real life, online learning, gaming, and social media. While these spaces can offer connection, they can also create pressure, comparison, and overstimulation. The constant stream of input can leave a young brain wired for alertness but starved of rest, focus, and genuine social confidence.

For those who are neurodivergent — including children with ADHD, autism, or sensory sensitivities — these challenges can feel even greater. The noise, unpredictability, and social rules of modern life can chip away at confidence and lead to overwhelm, shutdowns, or outbursts. Parents often describe feeling stuck in a loop: wanting to help but unsure how, while their child withdraws further or reacts in ways that feel hard to understand.

This is where therapy can help. Through Solution Focused Therapy, CBT, and gentle hypnotherapy, I help children and teens understand their brains, calm their nervous systems, and build tools for resilience and confidence. Sessions are relaxed, imaginative, and centred around their world — helping them reconnect with curiosity, calm, and self-belief.

Parents are a vital part of this process. Alongside your child’s sessions, I offer parent check-ins to help you understand what’s happening beneath the surface and to give you strategies for home. These sessions often become a turning point — breaking negative cycles of frustration and helping families rebuild connection, compassion, and hope.

Because when one part of the family starts to heal, the whole system begins to move forward.
