Working with Teens
According to the UK Mental Health Foundation, 32% of our teenagers have problems with sleep, whilst 27% said they felt nervous, anxious or ‘on edge’ most or nearly every day.
Life for a teenager can often be complex. Putting the pandemic aside and all the challenges that came with it, teenagers are often subject to bullying, social pressures, educational demands, ever changing friend and family dynamics and constant hormonal changes. Plus, they are developing physically at a faster rate than any other time in their lives.
The adolescent brain does not have an infinite amount of resources and finds it hard to deal with feelings of depression and anxiety, often resulting in our teenager feeling desperate, dejected or demoralised. These feelings are real, and often distressing and confusing for both the caregiver and the teenager. Interestingly, the teenager will have very little conscious control over what is happening and may act out in an uncontrollable way. Changes in our adolescent lives can often result in late teen and early adulthood anxiety causing limiting belief patterns to take root and repeat over and over again, becoming lifelong issues, reducing confidence and the ability to self regulate.
Solution Focused Therapy can help teens find their balance again, their place in society. Using tried and tested techniques, I will work with your teenager to help soothe them, build their trust, help them achieve their potential and grow their confidence. I will teach them tools to help them cope better with day-to-day challenges whilst addressing their specific concerns with individually tailored trances. And all of this will be achieved in the comfort of their own home, where they feel safe and secure. All sessions with me are online, and many of my teenage clients come to sessions already in their pyjamas! I am CRB checked, fully insured and qualified and come with nearly 20 years of therapy experience.
